Cairns Marine became a member of Ornamental Fish International (OFI) following our involvement at the CITES Conference of the Parties in The Hague in 2007 and witnessing the professional manner with which the organisation’s representatives addressed issues affecting the aquarium trade.
OFI represents the international aquatic industry in all its aspects. The organisation has members in 44 countries, including the major fish exporting and importing nations. Members include wholesalers, collectors, breeders, retailers, importers, exporters, consultants, manufacturers, publishers, plant specialists, freight forwarders, airlines, and exhibition companies.
OFI is a non profit organisation committed to:
- Improvement of quality levels to ensure the highest possible standards of animal welfare in collection, production, keeping, handling packing and transportation procedures.
- Collaboration with fishermen and communities worldwide to promote sustainable collection of fish and other aquatic organisms; and to protect natural habitats through effective environmental and conservation programmes.
- Adherence to ethical trading standards.
Cairns Marine supports the aims of OFI, which are to raise awareness of the industry, its methods of operation and its activities among non-members of the industry and the general public.
